People Productions Sustainability and Community Initiatives
People Productions has high-definition video cameras, mega hard drives, and complex computer systems...but producing exciting videos, sophisticated websites and cutting-edge interactive media takes energy! And, not just creative energy from our talented crew - it takes plenty of the energy that comes down the wires from electrical substations, too. Our place in the community and the world is important so we're taking steps to give back locally and globally.
Wind
Our power comes from the air. People Productions purchases offsets for all its electrical consumption from Renewable Choice Energy (renewablechoice.com) to support the construction of more wind power turbines. We still shut down our computers at night, though. No need to pull juice when we don't need to!
Travel
Our camera people fly across the nation and around the world to capture on-location footage of our clients and their activities. We track our carbon footprint from flying and driving and purchase carbon offsets from Renewable Choice Energy for our transportation. When possible we work with camera people who are located in these far flung sites to cut down on costs - both financial and environmental. People Productions encourages car-pooling, installed a custom bike rack inside the office for cyclists, and we are part of the Downtown Boulder Organization, so all of our employees have free RTD bus passes.
Recycling
People Productions has been working with Eco-Cycle since the mid-90's to minimize waste around the office. Signs above the bins teach people what can be and can't be recycled - it doesn't make sense to clog the system with good intentions but incorrect actions. Stuff that Eco-Cycle can't pick up we deliver to them. We make it a point not to just throw away old gear; instead, we try to find good homes for still functioning video hardware, computers and monitors. To avoid creating more waste, we use recycled packaging materials whenever possible. Oh, and our water filter has replaced the bottled water that was used previously meaning no more bottles and no more gas to the store to get the bottles...
Community
As a participant in the Community Foundation's Culture of Giving Program, People Productions contributes 2% of gross revenues to local non-profits. In addition, through our membership in Social Venture Partners, we contribute time, money and expertise to local community groups with a more hands-on, long-term approach. Each year several projects are produced with matching funds from People Productions so non-profits we support can have effective marketing communications via videos, websites, and the synergy of new media. Within our staff we encourage participation in local projects and match employee contributions to any charity.
People
The people at People Productions are our most valuable resource. We strongly believe that a balanced, sustainable work/life balance leads to happier, healthier employees who in turn can be energetic contributors to a sustainable community. We promote sane working hours and allow paid vacation and/or extended time off for longer trips. Even though we are a small company, we have a retirement plan and company-paid healthcare. Best of all, we have a family-like work environment as seen at lunch when we all eat together sharing stories and laughs.
